Human enjoys companionship and friendship with others; if this friendship is with righteous, decent, and mindful people, he will benefit good effects of this friendship, reach the spiritual place of his companions and even sometimes above them. If, on the other hand, he associates with indecent ignorant people, he will be harmed by bad effects of this friendship, becoming even more vicious than his friends.
Because of the importance of association, Islam has specifically attended to it in the Holy Quran and the traditions, mentioning positive and negative effects of association, guiding the society into constructive association, and prohibiting it from destructive association. Islam has considered true association with the pious as the cause of salvation in this world and the Hereafter and association with the wrong-doer as the cause of misfortune in this world and the Hereafter.
